History of Run Jericho
In 2011, parents at St Barnabas Primary School started the first Run Jericho race, to raise money for the school and create links to the Jericho and Oxford community. Here's a publication and poster from the very first iteration of this exciting event...

Fast forward more than 14 years and Run Jericho is still going strong with the baton being handed down to new parents/teachers at the school. The spirit of Run Jericho lies in its inclusivity, dedication to healthy living and its mission to bring the community together all while raising funds for St Barnabas Primary School to enhance the pupils' educational experience.
Raising Money for St Barnabas Primary School
Since the very beginning, we have raised over £100,000 for the school, to fund many improvement projects, including:
- Climbing Frame in KS1 and KS2 community-shared playgrounds
- Investment in Community-Owned Solar Panels
- Chromebook Laptops for Interactive Learning
- Oven for After School Cooking Club
- Early Years Foundation Climbing Frame and Resurfacing
- Sports Equipment
- Library Books
- Picnic Tables for School and Community Use
- Art Mural
- Forest School consisting of Outdoor Classroom, Mud Kitchen, Sandpit and Water Play Pulley System
Helping More than Just Our School
In 2012 to 2015, we also raised funds for an Ethiopian School Library in Bekoji:

All About Our Community
The races loop around the beautiful local community of Jericho, Oxford. Locals can be heard cheering on and supporting the runners as they race around the streets.
The school shares its main playground with residents after school hours, and money raised has helped improve these facilities so that the school as well as the local community can benefit from them. Run Jericho wouldn’t be possible without volunteers in the community and generous sponsors. We always need willing helpers, whether you can spare 30 minutes before the event to mark out the course, or spend the morning as a marshal … every little helps!
Ecologically minded
St Barnabas Primary School is an Eco school and encourages students to think about a range of areas including waste reduction, energy saving, healthy living, water, biodiversity, transport and travel. Run Jericho also aspires to be an Eco event. Please consider bringing your own bottle, and arriving at the event by foot, bike or public transport if this is possible. For this reason, no goodie bags are distributed at our events.
The organisers always go around the course after the race has finished to make sure that all areas have been cleaned of any rubbish and are in great condition, especially in Port Meadow.
We’re open to any green ideas you may have, so please contact us.
